Chapter 18: Lost In Literature
by inkadminTwelve Reapers, where there are only Seven Oathsworn. Why do the Angels fear the dead more than they fear the demons who seek to destroy all life as we know it? I’ve found but one mention of the first Reaper, Elve, The Reaper Of War, and how he came to be. A simple book, The Biography Of A Poet, describes his ascent as “the revolution of the righteous against the divine”. Why did the First Reaper revolt against the divine? And why would he become that which he fought against?

Oathbreaker Forged in Dragon’s Breath by Angel Loseta, this sword was crafted from the bones of a dead god to strike down the Fallen. This sword deals divine damage. |

Angels above. Sehara protect my sight from lies.
It takes me a long minute to believe the words describing the sword, but the system doesn’t make up its descriptors.
It’s a simple looking sword, its sheath black, and its handle wrapped in cord. Still, I don’t know if I should touch it. I don’t know what the Fallen are, but considering this sword was crafted by one of the Builders, I’m not sure I want to know.
“What is it?” Libby asks, walking up to me.
“A nice sword.” I answer as I walk over to the simple looking weapon. I hesitate for a second, then pick it up.
Now that I have it closer, I can see a pair of wings carved into the sheath.
I don’t feel any different with it in my hands, but I’m sure I don’t want to unsheathe it in front of everyone.
I spin back towards the exit, “Lead us back up, Shar.”
The black cat watches me with knowing eyes, but doesn’t say anything as she turns towards the exit and leads our group towards the exit.
Our packs are light, but it’s getting close to night time anyway, it’s about time we return to the protection of camp.

The next day, I give the group a chance to rest, while I give the excuse that I’m seeing the Vishten again.
The tunnel between the dungeons and the hallway is just as cramped as I remember it.
I unbuckle my swordbelt and take off my backpack while Shar sits in the corner.
“Why does the Archmage have so many divine artifacts?” I’d been debating asking Shar about what I’d seen in that room the whole walk down.
The golem doesn’t look surprised by the question as she starts through the hole in the wall. “He researched the divine.”
I place my backpack and sword in the hole, then push them ahead of me as I crawl through.
“That’s more than research. Some of those items…” I grunt as I push my bag past a snag, “I’ve never seen anything like them. And that’s saying a lot.”
Shar doesn’t respond, not that I was expecting her to. Thankfully, the trip through the cramped corridor is fairly short, and I pull myself onto a familiar path.
We walk to the Archmages sanctum, and I spend some time disabling the runes that hide and protect the place.
The fake wall falls away, revealing the lines of golems on the wall. I have Shar lead me to the strongest one, a creature that towers over me in height. Made of slick stone, the Golem’s eyes are two orbs of mana, dormant from hundreds of years of silence.
“His failings are simple, Leo. The others will be harder to bring back.” Shar’s voice brings my attention to the black cat who stares up at the sleeping golem.
I take a deep breath, then call upon the wisdom of the ancients.
The next hour is spent in deep concentration as I use my newest profession’s skill in combination with the knowledge my class grants me.
By the time I finish, I’ve exhausted my mana, and I barely manage to stumble into the Archmage’s private room before I pass out.
The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.

I wake up to another Lore Mage level, and a large stone construct looking down at me.
“‘Mornin sleepy.” Shar stands up on my chest, currently in her cat form. She gives a long yawn, and stretches her front legs.
The stone construct steps back, then bows its head. “Good morning, may I have the honor of knowing who woke me from my slumber?”
I blink, then cast Identify Artifact on the golem.
