[Archetype: That Time I Reincarnated as a Simple Village Girl and Took Revenge From My Betrayers Using the Dating Simulator System!]

Theo read and re-read the archetype. However, before he could even think about it, another notification arrived.

    [Quest updated.]

    Oh. This must be th-

Before he could even complete the thought, the iron-clad warrior dashed forward and swung both her axes. Satou’s eyes widened as he threw aside Theo and pulled out his daggers.

The great axes caused him to buckle under the pressure and fall on his knees. He had expended quite a lot of energy from the last fight against the bandit boss.

“Why are you attacking us!?” Satou shouted. There was no answer coming from the iron-clad warrior. Theo gritted his teeth.

However, suddenly, the warrior stopped attacking and stepped back. She slotted her great axes on her back. She must have realized Satou wasn’t to be trifled with casually. The Assassin reciprocated by sheathing his daggers under his robes and frowned.

“You,” she slowly turned toward Theo. Her voice, though slightly metallic because of the helmet, was very sweet. It had an alluring, enchanting tone to it. “What were you reading?”

“W- What?” Theo asked with a raised brow. He felt his knees about to buckle, his voice barely audible. He really didn’t have the energy to deal with this right now.

“You were reading something, mid-air. Your eyes… You were reading a system notification, weren’t you?” She asked.

Cold sweat poured from Theo’s head, not sure whether it was because of the toxic shock or the chilling deduction. He had worried about this before, someone genre-savvy coming along and figuring out what he was doing from his eye movements.

And, now that he thought about it, this was more than being genre-savvy. She had a system too! Not to mention, it was a dating simulator system. Theo couldn’t help but worry what that entailed.

“I’m… Uhh…” Theo looked toward Satou, who shrugged in response. The guy could barely understand what they were talking about. He would not be providing any valuable excuses. “I was- I had just completed a quest so..”

“Don’t lie to me!” The woman shouted. Her hand reached for her great axe, grasping its hilt. Satou reached for his daggers too, which calmed her down. If The Assassin wasn’t here, Theo felt like he would have already been killed. He was like a nuclear bomb ready to go off. The perfect deterrent. The Iron-clad warrior seemed to know that as she chose to talk instead. “You were surprised as soon as you saw me. You know something about me, don’t you!?”

Theo frowned. This was bad. He didn’t know what her intentions were.

“It told me that you are an abnormal too,” Theo answered vaguely.

“How convenient. Was that really all?” She wasn’t convinced. And from how growly her voice was, she was ready to take the risk to kill Theo if things came down to it.

It was logical. Theo might have done the same. After all, she didn’t know what his system did. There could be a countdown to her death right about now, and she would be none the wiser.

“I can see others’ cheats,” Theo admitted. It was still vague, but he hoped that drip-feeding her information would eventually sate her.

“What does it say?” An alert voice came from behind her visor.

“That you have a dating simulator system,” Theo responded honestly. The woman twitched for a second, but the status quo continued.

“I have met other system users before, like you, like me,” The woman said out of nowhere. “If there is one thing that we all have in common, it’s that we like omitting things. Every system has a core mechanic. You already know mine, it’s only fair that I know yours.”

God damn it. She’s got me by the balls. Theo inched closer to Satou, not showing any particular emotion.

“How confident are you in taking her out?” Theo whispered. Satou shook his head slightly. That’s not good.

Theo rubbed a hand over his aching legs, he wracked his brain for an answer.

“I get level-ups for helping other abnormals,” he said. Although technically, there were no strict guidelines that made his missions helpful ones, all of them had been that way so far.

“Hmm…” The woman went silent for a while. Without responding, she turned her helmeted head toward Satou.

“And what about you? What are you? Don’t lie to me, you are an abnormal too. I know it.”

“I’m from a different world,” Satou answered. Sure, he didn’t have any idea about systems and stuff, but he knew what classified him as an abnormal.

“What are you two doing here?”

“We were trying to protect the village from the bandits,” Theo answered quickly. He had momentarily forgotten the fact, but this woman was the mysterious ally mentioned by the quest. Not only did he have to somehow resolve this tense situation, but he had to make her an ally.

    “For what reason?”

“My friend here has lived in the village for quite a while and has taken a liking to it,” Theo explained.

    “…I’ve seen him around before.”

The woman said in a benign tone. Theo truly couldn’t figure out what she was thinking, especially not with that helmet covering her face.

She has a dating sim system… A dating sim system? How do those generally function? Theo cursed at himself for not reading enough in his previous life. He only had a couple stories he could speculate off of.

Dating sim systems and adjacent cheats have some common points. But the main one would be… Conquer targets.

Conquer targets were people chosen as targets by the system. This conquering was, however, obviously romantic. The host of the system had to make the targets fall for themselves, generally increasing a ‘relationship’ bar. The details could change but generally, making more progress meant being granted benefits by the system.

    Which means…
