The Last Safe Floor

When the System arrives, it doesn’t blanket the world in glowing screens and second chances. It seals every city inside black walls, turns skyscrapers into vertical dungeons, and announces one rule: climb or be consumed. In downtown Chicago, former paramedic Mara Voss wakes in the wreckage of an ambulance to find the streets below crawling with stitched-together corpse beasts and the floors above filling with survivors, factions, and things wearing human faces.

Mara awakens a forbidden class called Gravebound Medic, able to heal the living by bargaining with the dead. Every life she saves leaves a whisper in her skull, every skill she gains drags her closer to the System’s hidden architecture. As food dwindles, monster waves rise floor by floor, and rival survivor clans turn the tower into a warzone, Mara must build a sanctuary in a place designed to slaughter hope.

But the tower is not a prison. It is an incubator. And when Mara discovers the top floor holds the key to who—or what—gets to inherit Earth, survival becomes rebellion.
