The Last Safe Zone

When the sky splits open over Denver and the System brands every human with a countdown, ex-paramedic Jonah Vale thinks the end of the world will look like fire, panic, and monsters in the streets. He is only partly right. The first wave brings carrion hounds, living shadows, and a citywide quest: reach a Safe Zone before midnight or be marked as prey. Jonah saves a busload of strangers and awakens a forbidden class—Trauma Reaper—able to heal the dying by harvesting death itself.

But the Safe Zones are not salvation. They are cages built around dungeon hearts, and every sanctuary must feed on blood, mana, and obedience to survive. As factions rise from the ruins—militias, cults, corporate enclaves, and System-blessed warlords—Jonah discovers the monsters outside the walls are scouting for something worse beneath them. Denver was not chosen at random. It is the site of a buried gate, and humanity’s tutorial is designed to decide who becomes livestock, who becomes soldiers, and who becomes gods.
