Kael Veyra was born rune-blind in a civilization where every child is tested, branded, and ranked by the seven living runes that shape reality. Condemned to a life cleaning chalk dust from the lecture halls of Astralith Academy, he survives by memorizing the spells nobles waste and professors hide. Then a forbidden catastrophe beneath the school kills an archmage, cracks the academy’s sealed vault, and leaves Kael with an impossible mark burning beneath his skin: a ninth rune that should not exist.

The rune does not give him power. It gives him questions. Every spell becomes a puzzle, every duel a formula, every monster a broken theorem waiting to be solved. Hunted by faculty, courted by rival houses, and trained by a disgraced mentor who once tried to overthrow the rune system itself, Kael enters Astralith as its lowest-ranked student.
