When the world is integrated into the infinite dungeon-network known as the Ladder, every human receives a Class, a party slot limit, and a place in the new food chain. Twenty-three-year-old Elias Vane gets neither fame nor fortune at awakening. He draws the impossible designation: Zero Slot, a bugged support Class that cannot join parties, cannot equip standard class skills, and should have died on the tutorial floor.
