    A few weeks later

Nathan woke up in his shared bed with Alicia the morning of the tournament. Today terrified him more than he thought it would have, but still, with the beautiful woman at his side, he couldn’t help but feel a bit optimistic about future events. All of them. It was hard to see the bad things when the good things constantly happened to you.

The alarm sounded off, and he clicked on his phone with a beep, muttering something that he forgot seconds later. Alicia’s phone went off in the very same moment, and she did the same, although she turned towards Nathan.

    His arm felt asleep.

She must have crept up and snuggled on it during the night. Still, he couldn’t help but look at her in wonder and run his hands on the side of her face and through her hair.

“Morning, beautiful.” He chuckled, and a little bit of red rushed into her cheeks.

    “Good morning, handsome.”

The bits of conversation from a few weeks ago flashed through his mind. That they would have to find a new apartment. That she was cutting off her family because of things she realized in the past few months. He found her reasoning to be agreeable.

He pulled her closer and planted a kiss on her lips. Just a short one, but Alicia grabbed the back of his head and pulled him closer, her tongue darting into his mouth. Well, that was a nice thing to wake up to. Seriously, no way that he was going to complain. His body reacted instinctively, accompanied by the morning reflex that came with each rising sun. Suffice to say, the sun wasn’t the only thing that rose up in the morning of the tournament.

“Alicia, tournament. We’ll have to go and prepare.” He said, pulling away after a few moments with every ounce of his willpower.

She smiled at him. That wicked spark appeared in her eyes as her hand went underneath the blanket, searching downwards. “I think we can still make it.”
