The Archive at the Edge of Tomorrow
When xenolinguist Dr. Mara Venn deciphers a repeating signal from beyond the heliopause, humanity celebrates its first contact—until the message turns out to be written in Mara’s own dead husband’s voice. The transmission contains star charts to a rogue planet drifting between systems, where an impossible alien structure waits in the dark: an archive that appears to store the futures of every civilization that has ever found it.
Mara joins the expedition aboard the sentient survey vessel Orpheus, accompanied by a fractured military AI, a disgraced colony engineer, and a priest who believes the signal is divine. But as they approach the rogue world, the crew begins receiving personal messages from events that have not happened yet: betrayals, deaths, and warnings not to open the Archive.
Inside, Mara discovers first contact is not an invitation but a test. The aliens are gone, the Archive is awake, and every future it predicts ends with humanity’s extinction—except one that requires Mara to commit an unforgivable crime against time itself.
