Wild Gourmet: Chapter 16

Bearskin Bandolier This belt is designed to be worn across the chest, firmly latched into place by a brass buckle. Its angle is designed to ease the drawing of daggers via your off-hand. It provides minimal protection compared to your shirt armor, but will still somewhat blunt attacks that hit on the belt or the daggers themselves. This bandolier is limited to carrying six daggers. It will reject creative attempts to carry more. As with your other Ursine equipment, it is considered as a potential part of a set and might confer a bonus when combined with sufficient similar gear. |
“The daggers are interesting, too,” Shou said. “Handle one so you can see what they are.”

Wilder’s Throwing Daggers Built smaller and lighter than conventional fighting knives, these daggers are balanced for spear-style throws and overhand throws alike. Each one is honed to a razor sharpness near the point, but serrated in a rough pattern near the rear to maximize damage and minimize the probability of the daggers falling out of a target they have penetrated. As with your other Ursine gear… |
No set bonus had showed itself yet, but that hardly limited how good Brand felt about this new armament. Drawing one of the daggers with his offhand, he flung it underhand in the spear style. It sailed straight and true across the room before hitting a half-burned wooden beam nearly where he had intended it to.
“Yup. Works just fine. Thought so.” Shou nodded his head, clearly satisfied. “How do they feel?”
“Great.” Brand pulled the rest of the daggers and threw them, each in turn. They clustered around the first. At medium range, he’d be able to hit monsters with these. Six wasn’t a lot of available shots, but it was many more than he had planned on having just a few days ago. He wasn’t about to complain. “What’s with the limit on the ammunition?”
“Just the system saying no. It happens,” Luisa said. “Later on when we are all at higher levels, we’ll be able to get you a bit more capacity. Don’t count on it being any time soon, though.”
“Fair.” Brand retrieved the daggers from the support beam and reinstalled them in his bandolier. “I keep wondering when that set bonus will show up, but even if it doesn’t these are pretty great.”
He turned around to see three shocked pairs of eyes glued on him. Luisa made it to him first, grabbing him by the bandolier and turning him to face her directly.
“What set bonus?” She said. “Explain.”
“The system descriptions for these are saying that my class might consider them to have a set bonus.” Brand blinked, confused, and looked at Shou. “You didn’t know this?”
“We couldn’t have. We don’t have your class.” Shou’s hand shot out and grabbed the second belt, which he shoved into Brand’s arms. “Put this on. Now. Oh, please, system, let this work.”
Brand shook his head but did as he was told, looping the belt around his waist and cinching it tight.

Wilder’s Belt This belt is made of Ursine leather, has built in scabbard for your dagger, and provides a minimal additional level of protection. As with your other Ursine Gear… |
|
Combat Shitoku (Enhanced) This dagger has been enhanced with ursine materials and increased crafter skill. As before, it is a crafted weapon of reasonable quality for an inferior product, but much of that inferiority has been mitigated by the inclusion of superior monster-supplied blade materials. As with your other ursine gear… |
“Oh. Nothing happened,” Brand said. “Shoot. I’m sorry…”
A sudden tingling in his hands and feet interrupted his apology. Something was happening, something good, but it took the system to explain exactly what.
|
Set Bonus: Ursine Gear You have completed a styled set of equipment. You will perform as if you have an additional level in your moss steps, butchery, and tracking skill while wearing it. |
|
Potential uncovered! Your class has reached a level at which a potential modification of its function is possible. Please explore all possibilities related to the way you approach your class to learn more about this potential avenue of growth.

Brand read out loud, relaying the information he was receiving while he read it. In the meantime, he saw the telltale signs of his friends getting something good. Each of them were staring at their hands, then moving their bodies as if to test newly applied stats.
