It took him a few hours, but finally, outside his new cave home, Rob watched as the new spear he had been crafting began to glow. His crafting didn’t have to be perfect with the finishing touches as the system seemed to bind all the components together once the newly crafted piece had been put together.

You have discovered a new crafting recipe: Spinefang Spear (Refined)

You have unlocked a potential Vocation: Weaponsmith (Common). Would you like to make Weaponsmith your Vocation? Yes/No? Please note, changing your Vocation will not be possible for a long time, not to mention, doing so will have major consequences, and is generally not a recommended course of action.

You have unlocked a potential Vocation: Advanced Survivalist Engineer of Renown (Rare). Would you like to make Advanced Survivalist Engineer of Renown your Vocation? Yes/No? Please note, changing your Vocation will not be possible for a long time, not to mention, doing so will have major consequences, and is generally not a recommended course of action.

Rob gripped the new spear in his hands.

    Fantastic.

He immediately felt safer and more himself now that he had a functional primary weapon back in his grip. Any threats could come his way now and he had no fear. In fact, he could feel his hunger for the next fight growing by the second.

Still—he wasn’t done crafting. Not yet, anyway.

He had a few finishing touches he still wanted to implement.

But the Vocation notifications had caught him slightly off guard.

    Weaponsmith, sure.

But Advanced Survivalist Engineer of Renown?

That was the best Vocation he’d been offered so far. Sure, Savvy Survivalist Engineer was also considered Rare, but this Vocation had an adjective on either side of it. It sounded more impressive and Rob had a good feeling it was.

It was an interesting dilemma to be in. It felt like his instincts to hold out for the best possible Vocation made sense as his options seemed to be improving over time. It looked as if the more crafting he did beforehand, the greater the Vocation opportunities became.

Still—the longer he held out on his Vocation, the longer he went without leveling it and leveraging whatever advantages the Vocation gave him.

    Rob smiled to himself.

Maybe he was being crazy. Or taking big risks.

But you know what? He liked taking big risks and so far in this new world they were paying off.

So he was going to continue to hold off.

He had a good feeling it would be worth it.

He turned his attention to his new spear and identified it.

    Spinefang Spear (Refined)

    +3 Strength

Rob liked what he was seeing. Already the spear looked to be an upgrade to his starting Common Spear.

Or–he thought so at the very least. This new spear was an upgrade in terms of item ranking. His former common spear was of “Basic”-ranking and this looked to be a step-up at “Refined”-ranking. Not only that, his previous common spear had no stat bonuses, whereas his new Spinefang Spear did. Everything was pointing to this new spear being better.

    There was just one thing.

The base stats of the weapon weren’t shown on either of them, and his conventional thinking would say metal would trump bone. Except in this case, he was dealing with magically enhanced bone. Perhaps that made all the difference.

He wouldn’t know for sure until he tested the new spear out on some monsters.

And regardless–he wasn’t even done crafting yet.

    No.

He still had the rare Blood Pearl.

Rob took the metal tip of his old spear and used it to carve a slot near the top of the spear, just a few inches below the new spinefang tip.

Once he’d finished carving the slot, he placed the Bloodpearl into the slot.

His spear began to glow again.

    Yes, he grinned.

A whole new list of prompts began to stack in his retina.

You have discovered a new crafting recipe: Bloodpearl Empowered Spinefang Spear (Enhanced)

You have unlocked a potential Vocation: Advanced Weaponsmith (Uncommon). Would you like to make Advanced Weaponsmith your Vocation? Yes/No? Please note, changing your Vocation will not be possible for a long time, not to mention, doing so will have major consequences, and is generally not a recommended course of action.

You have unlocked a potential Vocation: Artificer (Uncommon). Would you like to make Artificer your Vocation? Yes/No? Please note, changing your Vocation will not be possible for a long time, not to mention, doing so will have major consequences, and is generally not a recommended course of action.

Here we go again, Rob thought, looking over the new Vocation invitations.
