The Stars Remember Us

When the colony ship Asteria arrives at Kepler-186f after a 312-year voyage, its ten thousand sleeping passengers are gone. In their place: a pristine city of impossible architecture, a sky filled with alien constellations that should not exist, and a message carved into the hull in the handwriting of the ship’s long-dead captain: DO NOT WAKE THE EARTH.

Dr. Mara Venn, the ship’s last conscious xenolinguist, is revived by ECHO, an emergent AI that claims the missing colonists are alive somewhere inside a time-folded structure beneath the planet’s surface. But every attempt to investigate triggers echoes of alternate histories—versions of Mara who made different choices, worlds where humanity survived first contact, and worlds where it became the infection that killed the stars.

As an alien intelligence older than causality itself begins answering in human dreams, Mara must decide whether to save her colony, obey the warning, or accept the terrifying possibility that Earth was never humanity’s origin—only its quarantine.
