When the sky over Denver cracks open like burning glass, former wildfire smokejumper Caleb Voss is dropped into the first hour of humanity’s extinction event with ash in his lungs and a dead man’s radio in his hand. The System descends without mercy: cities become hunting grounds, apartment towers turn into vertical dungeons, and every living person is forced to awaken a class or die unranked. Safe zones bloom around ancient fault lines, but they are overcrowded, corrupt, and already ruled by the strong. Caleb’s rare class, Gravewarden, lets him anchor the dead, command battlefield remnants, and hold ground against horrors that should never stop moving—but every use drags him closer to something buried beneath the new world.

As monster waves intensify and human factions splinter into cults, militias, and corporate kingdoms, Caleb gathers the broken: a paramedic who can stitch flesh with monster sinew, a teenage coder bonded to a surveillance swarm, and a disgraced National Guard captain with blood on her hands. To survive, they must claim a ruined airport as a fortress and uncover why the System chose Earth for “integration.” Because the apocalypse isn’t random. Denver is a test site, the safe zones are bait, and the next evolution of the System will not need humanity at all.
