    Chapter Index

Many assume that Perrianon of Blood and Horgran the Butcher are more similar than they are. Horgran is, from what we know, a beast of unfathomable strength and appetite for death, a creature of endless violence. Perrianon is not obsessed with blood, or the spilling of it. Perrianon IS blood.

By the very nature of their existence, all things bleed in the presence of the Ancient, running like a river, filling depressions in the earth, forming lakes, even oceans. There is wisdom amongst the worshippers of Perrianon, for their knowledge of medicine is perhaps the most advanced in the entire Dungeon. None have better understood the needs of the body, and the secrets locked away in blood.

Perranon rose to the surface in the depths of an ocean, having little contact with the continents and the kingdoms that lived there. That didn’t mean they were unaware. Legends tell of the ‘blood tide’, when the seas turned red for weeks at a time, dyeing the beaches the dark shade of clotted blood.

    – Excerpt from ‘Collective Wisdom of the Cults’ by Granin Lazus

Many in the order may not realise, but it was the Shadow herself who invented the silent language employed by the nameless, and it was in this manner that she communicated with them. Limbs dancing gracefully in the darkness, she called them to attention.

Thank you for gathering here, she signed. I hope your work has gone well, and I will not keep you from your rest for long.

Of course not. The nameless soundlessly clacked their mandibles to show their amusement. If the Shadow were to encourage them to break one of the Eldest’s commands, they would eat their own antennae.

I have called this meeting to ask something of you, the Shadow continued, though it is not a command, but something you must decide amongst yourselves.

This was interesting… and different. The nameless had a very narrow focus, and they dedicated their all to it. Making decisions among them was a process almost entirely centered around how to better carry out their function, yet somehow the nameless felt that the Shadow was asking something different of them. Something new.

Recently, the nameless participated in the battle of the heart, helping to tip the balance against the FILTHY AND DISGUSTING… ahem. I apologise for that outburst. Tip the balance against the Krath and secure a great victory for the Colony. This was the first time you were ever called on to use your abilities in battle rather than to fulfil your purpose.
