Ch15 Cultivation
by inkadminBack in the servant camps, I return to work with a smile right at the break of dawn, much earlier than I normally would if I actually slept the night before.
The hot qi coursing through my body from last night is nowhere near dissipated.
My meridians are still wide open, allowing me to even absorb some of the ambient qi in the air as I walk through the forest today.
It feels like an aftereffect of eating part of that serpent’s plum. My vision feels sharper, and my energy feels endless as I chop wood. It takes less than an hour to fill up the metal bin, and my heart rate doesn’t even change by the time I’m done.
I circle around to the empty hut where I disposed of a body last night to double-check on the rush job I did in the dark. Yet, the patch of grass and dirt I dug up is no different than the many tree stump holes all over the property.
The inside of the hut is simple and organized. Everything is perfectly set.
While leaving, I reach down to feel the pendant around my neck.
Without it, I would be facing the same fate as Tang Min, most likely in the belly of a spiritual beast by now.
Small cracks splinter all over its smooth surface, as 1 of the 3 uses has been exhausted. The passive perk of cloaking aura has not changed one bit.
When I get back to my hut, the morning sun has finally risen over the horizon, around the natural time that I usually wake up.
I stop the moment I open my front door.

[1st Level Qi Refiner Check-In Time threshold met.]
[Would you like to Check-In?]
[YES][NO]
I vividly remember getting a notification just like this yesterday morning. Despite my confusion, I choose yes.
[Ding!]
[Rewards have been deposited into your storage!]
[x1 Perfect 1st Tier Upgrade Card]
[Please wait 1 day to Check-In again.]
As a brand-new bronze card falls into my storage, I remember one of the notifications I received while breaking through yesterday. It said my check-in time threshold was changed.
Now, with a fresh upgrade card ready for use, I fully believe it to be true. I will now receive one of these every single day.
I think about taking a spirit fragment out right now and upgrading it on the spot, but I already have something better in my storage to cultivate with, it’s the rest of that serpent’s plum.

Considering the toll it took on me last night, cultivating out in the middle of the day for hours at a time is not an option.
Just as I begin contemplating how much of the remaining plum I’ll attempt to eat tonight, the faint sound of wood chopping from far off in the servant camps, where I have never ventured before, hits my senses like background noise. My perception was never this keen, but I can hear it now.
