Ch3 Spirit Roots
by inkadminA final cloud of smoke escapes my lungs.
I try to savor it, but my mind is filled with too many emotions.
The first is a little bit of fear, as this woman moved so fast I couldn’t even see or hear her coming.
The second is irritation, as she just destroyed my cigarette.
“Hey, who are you to tell me how to walk my path?” I snort out instinctively, crossing my arms and staring into the deep blue eyes that gaze through me.
The third emotion is pure awe and even infatuation.
As a marketing team leader in a big city, I’ve been to plenty of fancy banquets, and an equal amount of down-and-out bars and clubs to appease clients. I’ve experienced almost every kind of woman Earth had to offer, but the one before me is truly a Celestial above them all.
There is an incredible aura around her that I have never felt before.
The depth of her gaze, the contrast of her crimson lips to her fair skin, the flow and perfect length of her icy white hair, and the exaggerated tight curves that subtly show through the long royal blue ancient-style robe she wears.
It is unlike anything I’ve ever seen before.
My pupils constrict, and my heart speeds up, but she is the first to break eye contact, shifting her gaze over to the flashing disk in her hand.
“Five Mixed Element Roots. All Ninth Grade…” she whispers under her breath, then the corner of her lip turns up.
She grabs me by the shirt and yells over to the man still testing other kids.
“I got one. Roots of a wastrel, but he’ll do as a servant for the outer sect. That fills my duty quota. Register him under my name, I’ll be heading to the Nine Rivers City for an auction before returning.”
I feel a gust of cold air surround me, and I’m lifted off my feet.
The momentum is strong enough to send me flying, and I quickly piece together where I’m going.
I reach up to try and hold onto something, and grab the delicate white hand holding me for some stability. Yet, I’m quickly thrust upward even faster, away from her.
The ground gets further away, and so does the icy beauty below me, but familiar text does materialize in front of my eyes.
[Automatic Inspect Function Activated…]
[Qin Yue] [Age: 22]
[12th Level Qi Refiner]
[Mutated Water Spiritual Root] [2nd Grade]
[Innate Lunar Yin Body] [Initial Stage – Ancient Grade]
[The sole living member of the Qin Bloodline. The 18th Hidden Family.]
All of this text fades away the moment I lose physical contact, but none of it makes any sense.
I only hear the man testing other kids’ spiritual roots respond.

“Yes, Senior Qin, understood. It will be done.”
She tosses him a small white stone and a glass vial. Then, there is a flash of blue light, and the woman disappears faster than my eyes can track.
Next thing I know, the weightlessness of my flight upward stops, and I land on the flat deck of the flying ship high above the ground.
I feel dizzy, confused, and still thinking of the image of that woman ingrained deep in my mind.
As the nicotine wears off, so does the absurdness of this situation.
My arms start to burn again, as the pain from crawling through broken glass on the floor of my burning home comes back to me.
I take the bow off my back and lie flat on the wooden deck of this ship, staring up at the sky, remembering the arrow I shot through the head of another human being.
I don’t know if I’m in shock, or can’t believe the fact that my soul has transmigrated to another world, or the fact that magic and immortals are real is holding my emotions back. But I feel nothing… If anything, I feel better than I ever have.
